DeHaan, who takes over the role played by James Franco in Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, joins returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as well as fellow franchise newcomers Shailene Woodley and Jamie Foxx, latter of whom will play villain Electro.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the sequel, which is skedded to swing into theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Script will be credited to Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as Jeff Pinkner, based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.

DeHaan is no stranger to playing mischievous teens, having co-starred in John Hillcoat’s bootlegging pic “Lawless” and Fox’s “Chronicle,” which grossed a surprise $126 million worldwide.

The thesp can currently be glimpsed in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” and next stars in Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama “The Place Beyond the Pines,” which Focus Features acquired at Toronto. Thesp has also wrapped the West Memphis 3 pic “Devil’s Knot” and the period thriller “Kill Your Darlings,” which will premiere in competition at the Sundance Film Festival.

Actor Dane DeHaan, whose filmmography includes “Chronicle” and “Lincoln,” recently spoke with Phoenix Movie Examiner about his latest motion picture project “Lawless.”

In “Lawless,” which will be available beginning Tuesday, Nov. 27 at retail stores and rental outlets throughout the Valley, Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Jason Clarke play three bootlegging brothers who make a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia and, as a result, find their loyalty is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.

Question: What about this project appealed to you? In other words, why did you sign on to star in it?

Answer: It was a no-brainer to me. At the time that the script was presented to me – which was certainly one of the best scripts that [I have been given] – it was already assembled with one of the greatest casts that I had ever seen. It was full of actors that I would love to work with. I was also presented with a really intriguing, interesting and challenging character that I would get to play.

Here’s the first poster for the Devil’s Knot.

Directed by Atom Egoyan, and starring Stephen Moyer, Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Mireille Enos, Kristopher Higgins, Seth Meriwether, James Hamrick, Alessandro Nivola, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha, Amy Ryan, Dane DeHaan and Matt Letscher, Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three “Centers on an infamous Arkansas murder case that ended with the conviction of three teens based largely on their alleged fascination with the occult. Three children were savagely murdered in 1993. Weeks later, police announced the arrest of three teens accused of committing the murders as part of a satanic cult ritual. Among the evidence presented against the suspects to show their dark states of mind were posters of the rock band Metallica and books by Anne Rice and Stephen King.“

Briefly: We’ve got some good 2013 release date news to report on this fine evening. Focus Features (via ComingSoon) has set an official release date for Derek Cianfrance’s third film, The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ben Mendelsohn, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and earned rave reviews from friends like Kevin Jagernauth of The Playlist; I gave it a solid review, too. Focus has set the film to arrive on March 29th, 2013, likely in a limited release at first.

Dane recently did a TIFF interview talking about his upcoming projects and The Place beyond the Pines. The interview was about 10 minutes long and quite interesting to hear him speak about everything from Kill Your Darlings to his upcoming 3D Metallica Movie which I am curious to see. Dane also did a GQ UK article for September, which I posted in the gallery. Having been a fan and admirer of his talent, he gives a lot into his characters and with that he really shows feelings for everyone he portrays. He’s magnificent and I know he will be successful in whatever he pursues.

I was working on a Kill Your Darlings Project, but didn’t have the time to really do it. So instead I made a graphic art project. I have added the following on the Dane pieces I made out of the project to the site. So here’s what I added: 1 icons, 3 signatures, 1 wallpaper, 1 Calendar and 1 Poster. You can view it all under the media section.

10 websites, 7 facebook pages, 3 facebook groups, 2 tumblrs, 3 twitters and twelve years ago. I knew nothing of what it took for a website to be built. Not even how to make a simple graphic, html coding, php coding, etc. For the last few months, I have been gathering as much information as I could for Simply Dane DeHaan and in the last five months. I cannot believe the feedback on it that I’ve received. As Dane, rises to stardom and yes he is getting there. I never thought what I did was important to anyone at all.

In the last two years miraculous things have happened and while doing what I usually do for web updates on Dane or Daniel Radcliffe. I now found out due to a recent article that they are friends. It warmed my heart that they were close. Can’t tell you how many times a day I google their names, but its a very funny thing cause when I first heard of Dane that he was gonna play Lucien Carr in Kill Your Darlings, it was like instantly I knew then Dane was gonna be the next website I was gonna build and probably the last. Before then my son, Jack kept pushing me to see Chronicle. And I gave in and watched it. After I seen it, I was just attracted to Andrew and then said yep I am gonna build a site on Dane there was no doubt in my mind that this was the next project for me. So I pushed all other websites aside and went to work.

It’s been very hard work as I’ve searched countless websites. But thanks to Dane himself, he’s helped me along the way. I thank him for that because it really has been a pleasure to do this for him. I can’t think of any actor that deserves it more.

September 01, 2012  marcie No comments Movies, Lawless

Found a few new things concerning Dane today. I found 6 videos which can be found on our fb page, received 1 article thanks to and on September 3, will be our 6 month anniversary.

Dane DeHaan talks about working on “Lawless”

Mike Gencarelli: Tell us about the dynamic that your character brings to this film?
Dane DeHaan: I play the role of Cricket Tate. He is the heart of the movie in many ways, like the light at the end of the tunnel. It is a very broodish and violent world that the movie takes place in. They say about Cricket that he “can never hurt a fly”. Well the three brothers have hurt their fair share of files. He soups up the cars and makes the moonshine better. So I would say that Cricket is also the brains behind the operation, as well as the heart.

MG: Did you explore the novel, “The Wettest County In The World” prior to shooting?
DD: Yeah I read the novel. For me, what I got out of the novel most was Cricket physicality. It talks a lot of about how he crouches a lot, which it didn’t necessarily say that in the script. So I got a lot of that from the novel.

You must be the envy of most actors having seemingly bypassed the ‘movies best left ignored’ stage. How did you do that?

Inevitably, I think the people that want to work with me are also the people that I want to work with. I think that can really come through in a meeting. I can’t really sit down in a meeting for some shitty movie and be like, “Wow I really want to be part of this,” and come across as genuine. It’s not until I sit in a room with people that I respect. I’ve been lucky to come across some kindred spirits in that way, and those are the people I get off with. I guess because of that, those are the kind of people I’ve ended up working with.

What is your overall goal? It sounds like you have one, or several.

Well I really just want to continue to challenge myself. And I want to continue to grow as an artist. I never want to stop. Al Pacino for instance, that’s a guy who never stops. He’s always trying to better himself. He’s in this because he’s an actor. He’s not in this because he wants fame. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love and what I’m truly passionate about as an artist — and have people like it. If I could just do that for the rest of my life, I’d be a happy person.
