Two Lovers and a Bear
May 16, 2015
Frappier, whose film career spans four decades, wrapped up filming on Two Lovers and a Bear earlier this month, after completing more than two months’ worth of shooting in Iqaluit and Ontario with award-winning director Kim Nguyen.
The film, set in Iqaluit and the surrounding landscape, still needs another six months of post-production work, but Nguyen and Frappier have put together a promotional segment for the Cannes Film Festival in France, May 13 to May 24, to create advance buzz and hopefully land some distribution deals.
“We’re showing a two-minute demo at the Cannes Film Festival, for the buyers,” Frappier said, just before departing for the festival this month.
France-based distributor TF1 International will be selling the movie in Cannes for markets outside of North America.
“We hope the movie will be shown in all parts of the world,” Frappier said.
A cast and crew of 100 assembled in Iqaluit at the end of March to shoot most of the movie, which features Canadian actor Tatiana Maslany, star of the TV series Orphan Black, and American Dane DeHaan, who has starred in a string of feature films, most recently The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The filmmakers are planning for a spring 2016 release.
Two Lovers and a Bear, as the title suggests, “is a big love story,” Frappier said.
“It’s a movie about redemption at the same time. It’s an adventure film. I think this movie is so full of life that I hope people will have a real experience watching it — and that it will give them something they’ve never had in a theatre,” he said.
Young Americans go to Cannes
May 9, 2015
Dane DeHaan and Daniel Radcliffe are reuniting with their Kill Your Darlings director John Krokidas to play the young Republican consultant Karl Rove and strategist Lee Atwater alongside Amanda Seyfried.
XYZ Films will handle international sales in Cannes on the story, based on true events surrounding a wild road trip the two friends undertook in the 1970s.
In Young Americans the cross-country journey becomes something of a crash course in dirty tricks as the pair encounter a young political femme fatale.
Bruce Cohen and Liz Destro of Destro Films are producing alongside Kim Leadford of StarStream Media and Frank Frattaroli of Circle Of Confusion.
UTA Independent packaged the film and will be representing North American rights.
Principal photography is scheduled to kick off in autumn.
Tulip Fever Cast
January 28, 2015
Here’s a cast members account from Tulip Fever, you can read more down below.
Luckily enough a kind hearted steward allowed us access to view more closely the chosen location, a hidden courtyard of Smithfield Almshouses for a new film entitled, Tulip Fever adapted from a cult novel by Deborah Moggach. The film follows the life of Cornelis Sandvoort, (Christoph Waltz,) a man who has made his fortune on the tulip boom of the early 17th century and his alluring wife, Sophia (Alicia Vikander) and her ‘interest’ in a young artist (Dane DeHaan) who is chosen to paint her portrait.
Films to watch out for in 2015
January 6, 2015
Ex-photographer and Control helmer Anton Corbijn seems like the perfect person to direct Life. That’s basically because it’s based on the real-life bromance between Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock and icon of cool James Dean. Robert Pattinson plays Stock, Dane DeHaan is James Dean, and they head up a cast that includes Ben Kingsley as tough-talking studio head Jack Warner, and Joel Edgerton as picture editor/photography pioneer John G Morris. Expect this one to clean up when awards season comes around in 2016.

Krokidas only recently made his feature directorial debut with the Allen Ginsberg/Jack Kerouac biopic “Kill Your Darlings” starring Daniel Radcliffe. Next up, he’ll reunite with Radcliffe for comedy “Young Americans,” which centers on a young Karl Rove desperately seeking the position of chief campus conservative under the guidance of Lee Atwater.
Young Americans was formerly called College Republicans.
